March 2012: On march 1st & 2nd 2012, Olga Borozdina and Pierre Ungemach attended the GeoTHERM Expo & Congress event in Offenburg (Germany). (See Programme). They both participated to the RH & C TP (Renewable Heating & Cooling Technical Platform) meeting, and Pierre Ungemach to the EGEC board meeting. On march 2nd Olga and Pierre gave a presentation on New Geothermal Activity in the Pairs Basin. Case study. See abstract and PowerPoint.
February 2012: Thomas Ratouis, 3rd year studient trainee from ENSG reported successfully (awarded 17, oral and 18, written, marks respectively) his 7 month stay, dedicated to the thermochemical impact on porosities (either reduction by supersaturation/precipitation or increase by dilution solubilisation of sensitive mineral species) induced by cold water injection in marine (Dogger limestones) and continental (Rijswisk sandstone) sedimentary environments, using TOUGHREACT software. His work and team drive were appreciated to the stage it has been decided Thomas will prolonge his stay with GPC IP until June 2012.
December 2011: On december 1st, 2011 Maria Papachristou defended successfully her PHD thesis entitled "Contribution to the low enthalpy geothermal reservoir management by using numerical simulations. The Paris Basin case" at the Aristote University, Geosciences Dept., Thessaloniki, Greece, being awarded the toppest excelency mark. Maria has been working with us since 2004, dedicating extra work hours to the preparation of her thesis, cooperating thorougly with GPC IP staff on major Paris Basin reservoir simulation and sustainable management issues. She (co)authored four scientific papers presented at the Stanford reservoir engineering workshops (2005, 2001), WGC 2005 (Antalya) and 2010 (Bali).
We all wish Maria a brillant academic career and look forward to resuming cooperative research.
November 2011: Marie-Paule Promis, who joigned on GPC IP staff on october 2011 as hydrogeologist and reservoir engineer, presented successfully (Nancy, september 22, 2011) her ENSG graduate diploma entitled "Application of the horizontal well technology to the engineering of geothermal reservoirs in view of assessing its impact on well performance and thermal life", thus concluding a 6 month stay.
Alongside simulation studies addressing the cooling kinetics of the Alfortville production well (Dogger modelling group), and more generally of South Paris GDH doublets, Marie-Paule modelled a quadruplet designed ATES (aquifer thermal energy storage) system and the impact on flowrates and cooling of horizontal and subhorizontal well designs.
The latter work was presented at the SES 11 conference organised by EAGE (Valencia, Spain, november 08-09-10, 2011).
September 2011: Laura Foulquier left us on 31st may en route for New Zealand, ending up a gap year she initiated with GPC IP on septembrer, 1st, 2010. During her nine month stay, Laura achieved relevant reservoir engineering projects applying software from the GOCAD geomodelling suite.
She defended successfully, in Nancy, her gap year report, dedicated to the simulation of reservoir cooling kinetics induced by a dense net work of geothermal district heating doublets, before resuming her third studient year at ENSG.
Last but not least, she authored and (co)authored two scientific papers, presented at international conferences (Stanford, feb. 2011 and Valencia, nov. 2011).
We all wish Laura a bright future.
